The Galata Mevlevi Music and Sema Ensemble, under the direction of Al Sheik Nail Kesova were proclaimed to be Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. They represent the symbol of oriental mysticism, which originated in the thirteenth century. An intense show, emotionally and spiritually, that captures the audience and leaves them breathless Dressed in a white robe like a shroud, a headdress that recalls the tombstones of Muslim countries, arms open to the sky, eyes turned to the heart, several men dance pirouetting and turning around their teacher. When travelling and crossing the volcanic tablelands and salted lakes of central Anatolia you reach Konia, you don t see the amazing mosques , the precious buildings and the tolerant and erudite university of the Seljuk Sultan. Just some interesting ruins can be seen while Mevlana Tekke ( Mevlana Monastery ) is untouched. Today it’s a museum , but for many centuries it has hosted the mystic Mevlev, the whirling dervishes and was founded in the XIII century by the wise poet Celaleddin Rumi of afghan/Persian origins. The extraordinary aspect of this 700 years old ritual is the will to connect three important components of human nature : spirit( mind and thoughts) , love ( emotions, poetry and music) and soul ( live, movement and Sema ) . Galata Mevlevi Ensemble can be considered the avantguard in the traditions of this brotherhood. In his monastery Sheik Nail Kesova has written many liturgical pieces , with the cooperation of Asiatic and Western artists and orchestra , creating new styles and melodies. Neil Kenova born in 1939 still is the Master.
