maasai

Maasai ( and not Masai ) is the right name of this noble tribe and it means “ people that speak Maa” . European settlers used wrongly the word Masai which then became common. Maasai have always been a very special population , starting from their bright red “ shuke” which identifies them and from their lance placed on the shoulder; they are always proud ,quite and brave also when there’s something of dangerous going on. The British Army that expelled Maasai from their land in the beginning of the 20th century, had great respect for this fearless tribe. Most recently the only way a Maasai boy has to become a warrior is to kill a lion only with his lance. Maasai are a population coming from the Nile and they live on the highlands between Kenya and Tanzania . They have often been considered as nomads or semi- nomads , but they are breeders that transfer their cattle from one side to another and nowadays are often allocated ( especially in Kenya)
